Embroidery Guidelines+
Everything you need to know to prepare your artwork for the best embroidery results.
Artwork Requirements
To achieve the best embroidery results, please follow these artwork guidelines:
- Preferred formats: AI, EPS, PDF (vector)
- Acceptable formats: PNG or JPG at 300 DPI or higher
- Minimum stitch area: Designs smaller than 1/2 inch may not reproduce well
- Text size: We recommend a minimum of 4mm cap height for readable text
Design Considerations
Keep these factors in mind when designing for embroidery:
- Thin lines (under 1.5mm) may not stitch cleanly—consider thickening strokes
- Gradients and photographic elements cannot be replicated exactly in thread
- Fine detail in small areas may be simplified by our digitizers for stitch quality
- We match colors using our Madeira thread inventory—exact Pantone matching may vary slightly
Placement Options
Common embroidery placement locations and standard sizes:
- Left chest: 3.5\"–4\" wide (most popular)
- Full back: Up to 12\" wide
- Sleeve: 2\"–3\" wide
- Hat/Cap front: 2.5\"–3\" wide, 2\" tall max
- Collar/cuff: 1\"–2\" wide text or icon
